We had a great genuine tour of downtown amman. The guide walked us through the towns many markets and old city centre. He was informative and cared deeply about making sure we were having a good time. He even bought us falafel and pita bread to “walk around eating like a local”. Did have some trouble finding start of tour, would recommend supplying the tour guide’s whatsapp. Try going inside of hotel mentioned for starting point to find the guide.

Highlights of a Free Tour in Amman

Known worldwide as the White City for its stunning architecture, Amman is home to a trove of superb cultural treasures. The city is thought to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Asia, so here tourists can find ancient Roman ruins and Islamic architecture ranging from ancient times to the Ottoman Empire and many modern buildings as well. Joining Free Tours in Amman will provide an opportunity to visit the Roman Baths in the Old Town. Nearby tourists will find the 2nd-century Roman Theatre of Amman, a huge 6,000-seat landmark next to the Hashemite Plaza. But the highlight of any trip to Jordan’s capital might be the Citadel, a hill steeped in history and inhabited since 1200 BC. The Neo-Assyrian Empire, Neo-Babylonian Empire, the Ptolemies, the Seleucids, Romans, Byzantines and the Umayyads left their imprint here. For a taste of modern architecture, visit King Abdullah I Mosque, where 3,000 people can pray at the same time.

Things to Do in Amman

Apart from roman temples, churches, mosques and museums, Jordan’s capital offers a dynamic life full of bars, cafés and interesting restaurants that you can explore with Amman City Tours. The famous Rainbow Street (Abu Bakr al Siddiq street) is a must-visit place in the historic area of Jabal Amman, near the center of downtown Amman. The street is full of cultural institutions and historic houses that will let tourists learn about the colonial past of the area and the current economic and political situation. Amman is also a kids' friendly destination: AlHussein Public Parks are landscaped green areas perfect for walks and picnics, and the Children's Museum of Jordan will also provide hours of entertainment. Of course, no Amman Free Walking Tour would be complete without shopping, eating and enjoying the ambience at the souks. Optionally, join a day trip to Mount Nebo to enjoy wonderful panoramic views full of history (this is the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land before his death!)
