Join our Historical Centre Porto Free Tour and discover the hidden charms and incomparable beauty of a city chiseled by age on the steep hills that grow from the magical Douro river. Understand the motives that brought in succession Celts and Romans to build settlements in a highly strategic enclave. A brave fortified city which has been the object of desire of countless invaders – Barbarians, Christians and Muslims- and all who succeeded fell hopelessly under its spell. Admire the city’s dazzling panoramic views from its pinnacle, the Pena Ventosa Hill, crowned by the majestic Porto Cathedral which dates back to the 12th Century, an ancient temple which tells stories of times past through each of its stones. Discover the secrets of its walled medieval town which gave its name to Portugal, one of the oldest countries in Europe.

Marvel at the wonderful tiles at the São Bento Railway Station, one of the finest examples of Beux-Arts architecture, and learn through them the crucial episodes of the city’s history. Navigate through to the 18th Century, Porto’s golden age, a time of amazing artistic creation in which all the baroque palaces and churches that now make up for its historical center were built: the Clérigos Tower, an emblem of the city, or the stunning churches of Carmo and Carmelitas. Dive with us to the heart of Porto’s most colorful fishermen neighborhoods of Ribeira and Barredo formed of an entwined maze of winding streets and serpent-like stairs. Explore its hidden squares and its darkest passages that invariably flown into the shores of the Douro river, a natural reflection of the Portuenses. On our Historical Centre Porto Free Tour, you will encounter a city proud of its past and aware of its destiny, a city that continually manages to reinvent itself yet preserves its authenticity and its eternal freedom. This tour will be operated by our local partners in Porto.
