Sofia our tour guide is excellent. She has lots of knowledge about the history of Budapest and also many interesting places which she gave us while we are here for a few more days of things we can do. She also gave us plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the city sights while walking and list to here. Fully satisfied with the tour guide.

Located on the eastern side of the Danube River from its neighbor Buda, Pest is a charming area with lots to see and explore. The Free Tour Pest is designed to be the perfect introduction to this fascinating area of Budapest. A local guide will show you all the monuments in the area and tell you about its interesting history: founded as a Celtic settlement, Pest flourished until it was destroyed by a Mongol invasion in the Middle Ages. Later, Pest survived floods, wars and invasions to become the glamorous neighborhood of today. Your tour will start around the Hungarian Parliament. This is a stunning Neo-Gothic building constructed in 1896 to celebrate the country’s recent political unity and still continues as the seat of the Hungarian Parliament.

One of the most moving monuments the guests will come across on the Free Pest Tour in Budapest is the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial, a haunting piece dedicated to victims of fascism during World War II. From here, guests will see the Chain Bridge, one of the most iconic symbols of the city. It offers great views of Buda Castle sitting proudly in the background. Further inside Pest is one of Hungary's most important religious buildings St. Stephen’s Basilica a neo-classical masterpiece that houses the mummified fist of King Istvan, the first monarch of Hungary. The other site of religious importance is the Great Synagogue. Here guests will learn of its enduring role during the Holocaust and the ensuing Communist era.

Guests on the Pest Free Tour will learn more about life during the Communist era with a stop at the very controversial Soviet Heroic Memorial. Most tours will include also a visit to the Central Market Hall, one of the highlights for visitors to the city. Here, guests will be in foodie heaven with all kinds of delicious Hungarian treats to try. As well as food there is a fantastic range of local handicrafts for sale, excellent for some souvenirs! During the tour do not hesitate to ask your guide as many questions as you wish. And, of course, guests will come away with a list of recommendations and tips for restaurants, bars, and cafés and the best public thermal baths to visit.
