The sprawling city of Bogota is home to a huge collection of incredible street art, which you could spend days exploring. That's why the Graffiti Free Tour has been created to help independent travelers to navigate their way around Bogota's maze of art. This tour is not just for art buffs; it has been designed to cater to all types of visitors, from those curious to see the main works to those who want to delve deeper into their meaning and discover hidden gems. Most tours will begin in downtown Bogota, where some of the most impressive murals can be found. Here, your guide will give you a brief introduction to the area and explain the socio-political importance of graffiti in the city.
From here, your group will make their way to the bustling, mural-filled La Candelaria. This neighborhood is Bogota’s cultural heart and is full of charming narrow streets to explore, such as Callejón del Embudo (Funnel Alley), where you will find art covering nearly every wall. In this area, you will see some of the most stunning murals in Bogota, such as the breathtaking "Cuna woman", created by Carlos Trilleras. Here, you will learn about how artists began using graffiti as a way of combating the violence that used to plague the area. They will also uncover some of the key socio-political themes behind the works, such as corruption, indigenous and women's rights. Your guide will also reveal some of the symbols within the work.
On the Graffiti Free Tour you will also have the opportunity to visit some of the area’s art galleries and the Concordia Market, a colorful and vibrant market full of mouthwatering local produce and delicious fruit juices. And that’s not all! You will also have the opportunity to taste Coca Tea and discover how it has been used since pre-Columbian times for its medicinal qualities, including combating altitude sickness. During the tour, please do not hesitate to ask your guide as many questions as you like; they will be more than happy to answer them. And, of course, guests will come away with a list of recommendations and tips for the best restaurants, bars, and where to go to experience the best of Bogota's nightlife.
