Exploring ancient Xian, it’s impossible not to feel amazed at the sight of the imposing Bell Tower. This iconic landmark is located at the heart of the city and serves as a symbol of Xian's ancient past. The tower was built in the 14th century and is the oldest of its kind in China. The neighboring Drum Tower is very similar, but it houses ancient drums – these were used in the past to mark the time during the day. No Free Tour in Xian would be complete without a stop at Beilin, also known as the Forest of Steles. This UNESCO World Heritage Site houses over 3,000 stone steles, many of which are over a thousand years old. Nearby you will find many calligraphy shops, where you can buy all sorts of calligraphy related items, such as brushes, ink stones, and paper. It's a great place to pick up a unique souvenir!
