The charming city of Casablanca is known for blending traditional Moroccan design with art-deco style buildings that serve as a reminder of its French Colonial Period. Casablanca is often overlooked by visitors to Morocco, and that’s why the Essential Free Tour Casablanca will take you and a small group of similar-minded international travelers on a journey to the heart of this mysterious city. The tour will focus on the area around the Old Medina, the most charming area in the city. Your guide will give you an introduction to the origins of the city, from its ancient roots to the role it played during the Second World War and contemporary developments such as the stunning Hassan II Mosque, the second largest functioning mosque in Africa.

After an introduction, guests on the Essential Free Casablanca Tour will begin to wander down to the historic heart of the city, where they will come across the glorious Sacred Heart Cathedral, a stunning example of the city's art deco architecture. Guests will find the Clock Tower and Medina Gate at the entrance of the Old Medina. The clock tower was one of the first structures built by the French Protectorate and was designed to symbolize their influence in Morocco. After entering the old medina, guests will navigate the labyrinth of winding streets that make up the area, admiring the wealth of beautiful buildings, shops, and eateries as they pass by. Do not forget to bargain before you buy anything!

As guests pass through the streets, they’ll come across several emblematic locations, including the Sqala Bastion, a former Portuguese fortification that has been converted into a peaceful garden restaurant with delicious food. Nearby, guests will find the iconic Rick’s Café, modelled on the famous bar from the film “Casablanca” with huge attention paid to the architectural details in the film. During your tour, please feel free to ask your guide as many questions as you like, they’ll be more than happy to answer them. And, of course, all participants will come away from the tour with lots of recommendations and tips for the best restaurants, coffee shops, and the best places to experience Casablanca’s lively nightlife and live music scene.
