The tour was excellent as I was able to learn a lot about the vet complicated history in Sarajevo and the country starting from the middle ages through the Yugoslavian war.

Your Essential Free Tour of Sarajevo will cover the best highlights of the historical center, located on the north bank of Miljacka River—Bascarsija. This sumptuous area bursting with Ottoman monuments represents a cultural symbol of Sarajevo and it is also a lively bazaar area where tourists can find anything from spices, tea, coffee pots, sleepers, traditional sweets, war memorabilia and much more. The link connecting both banks of the city is the charming Latin Bridge. This Ottoman-era stone bridge is a popular tourist destination because it’s near the site where Archduke Franz Ferdinand's was assassinated in 1914, precipitating the First World War. This bridge is also the easiest route to go from the huge Emperor's Mosque to the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos.
One of the highlights of the tour will be a visit to Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, one of the symbols of Sarajevo as well as the largest historical mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Built in the 16th century, it was the first mosque in the world to have electricity! It’s also a powerful symbol of Sarajevo’s reconstruction after the war, since the mosque suffered heavy damage during the conflict but was rebuilt with international solidarity. During the tour, you will also learn the meaning behind the “Sarajevo Rose” and how the city is heading to a new brighter future. Do you need any more reasons to join this engaging tour?
