Daria was a great tour guide. She told us not only a lot of historical facts but also a couple of interesting anecdotes. The tour started by crossing the Charles’ Bridge. Then, we took the tram to get to the castle. The tour included only the castle grounds. Some people decided to stay and get the admission tickets to see the castle inside. I highly recommend the tour.

Join us on a tour through the fairytale Prague Castle. Steeped in over 1,000 years of history, this castle has been the seat of the Kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperors. The Free Prague Castle Tour will take visitors on an incredible journey through the past, exploring one of the largest castle complexes in the world! The first part of the castle is believed to have been built around the year 880 by Prince Borivoj, the first documented Duke of Bohemia. Since then, the castle has expanded over the generations, and within the castle complex you can see just about every architectural style of the past millennia. Most tours will begin at the First Courtyard, where guests can watch the changing of the guard before entering the complex.

Featured in the Guinness Book of Records for being the largest coherent castle complex in the world. It consists of four palaces, four churches, five halls, four towers, and eleven gardens, not to mention the courtyards, museums, and statues! Guests on the Prague Castle Free Tour will not be without monuments to admire. Some of the buildings found in this complex carry immense historical, political, and religious importance. Such as St Vitus Cathedral, a superb example of Gothic architecture. This building has been the scene of generations of Czech coronations and is also the final resting place of St Vitus. Also found in this complex is the Romanesque-style St. George's Basilica, one of the oldest surviving structures in the complex.

During the tour, guests will have the opportunity to explore some of the Royal Gardens, including the South Gardens, gorgeously landscaped areas perfect for a relaxed stroll. Towards the end of the complex is Golden Lane. This complex of houses used to be the homes of the castle defenders, servants, and other tradespeople that served the royal family. Although the name Golden Lane comes from the goldsmiths that used to inhabit the area, legend also has it that alchemists used to live there. During the tour, do not hesitate to ask your guide as many questions as you wish; they’ll be more than happy to answer them. Guests will also come away with a host of tips and recommendations for the rest of their stay.
