Join our Alternative Porto Free Tour and soak in its marvelous culture as you penetrate into the guts, the heart, and the soul of the capital of the north: “the Ancient, very Noble, always Loyal and Undefeated city of Porto”. Visit with us the highlights which form an old town of outstanding beauty. Admire the São Bento train station. Named one of the most beautiful stations in the world year after year, you will be amazed by the over 20.000 blue and white tiles that depict Portugal’s history, which artist Jorge Colaço took over a decade to place. Let yourself go into the currents of the river and the winds of the Atlantic Ocean as we visit Porto’s most famous market, the Mercado do Bolhão. Although under serious renovations, there are many stories and anecdotes to be told that will reveal the great spirit of this city. Just in front of the market stands one of Porto’s oldest stores, the Pérola do Bolhão. The story of its founder is the story of every Tripeiro and the pulse and energy of Porto.
As we approach the end of the tour, there’s still time to visit the very heart of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, Porto cathedral. This is yet another wonderful example of how the history of a monument and the city are absolutely intertwined. On our Alternative Porto Free Tour, we could not forget the Café Majestic, Porto’s finest example of Art Nouveau architecture and the biggest rival to the Clérigos church, the church of Santo Ildefonso with its 11.000 panels of blue tiles that remember the São Bento train station by no accident, the author Jorge Colaço is the same. This tour will be operated by our local partners in Porto.
