Shelman is an outstanding tour guide and lovely human. He is extremely knowledgeable, and his passion for history, culture and social issues makes this tour so special. Shelman is a kind soul, taking into account our needs (for shade, a sitting area, water), answering questions we had as tourists having arrived only the day prior, and even ordering us a taxi at the end. I can’t get over how much he knows about Cuban history and present day complexities - and his creative, compassionate and engaging ways of presenting that knowledge. We were lucky to be in a small group, but his tours would be exceptional even without the personal touch, I’m certain. I have done a number of walking tours over the years. This one was hands down the best.

Things to Do in Havana

Away from wandering the gorgeous streets of Havana, you have a wealth of things to do to make the most of your stay in Cuba. Take a tour of Havana in a classic car and see Havana in all its glory. Then what about heading out to Havana’s notorious nightlife? Travelers can have a wonderful mojito at just about any bar in Cuba. Hemmingway made the mojitos in Bodeguita del Medio famous, but there are plenty of choices. If you love music, then Cuba is a dream come true and boasts some of the best music in the world. Head out to see a cabaret while you are here. The Tropicana Club is the most famous, but there are cheaper options. Outside of the cities, a trip to Valle de Vinales, a UNESCO Site and tobacco plantation, is a must. It can get crowded, so more off-the-beaten-track options include the National Park, Tope de Collantes, and Playa de las Tumbas, a long journey but totally worth it.
