We joined a free walking tour in Sarajevo today and it was one of the most meaningful experiences of our trip.
Our guide was warm, thoughtful, and deeply knowledgeable. What stood out most was how she shared not only historical facts, but also her own memories from the war. That added a very human layer you don’t get from books or documentaries.
She spoke openly about how complex life here still is, but at the same time she made a clear point: it’s important to also talk about the positive sides. About everyday coexistence, about people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds living together, and about the small, good things that often go unnoticed.
The tour felt balanced, honest, and personal. Not simplified, not one-sided.
I left with a much deeper understanding of Sarajevo, and a strong sense of respect for this city and its people.
Highly recommended.
