When you were a child did you ever wish that you could stop being a kid and act like a grown up for a few hours? Well luckily KidZania London allows children to do just that.
KidZania (which translates as “The Land of Cool Kids”) is a 75,000 square foot attraction in London where kids are essentially in charge of KidZania city. By combining learning and entertainment, kids can expand their knowledge of the real world by learning essential life skills like team work, financial literacy, and how to succeed in a future career.
KidZania helps give children between the ages of four and 14 the confidence to challenge themselves by trying 60 “real life” role-playing activities, such as acting as a police officer fighting crime in the streets, learning how to style hair like a beautician, or even something as simple as opening up a bank account.
Kidzania Highlights
Some of the many activities/jobs kids can participate in at KidZania London include:
- Act on stage as an actor, actress or puppeteer, or learn magic tricks as a magician at the Acting Academy.
- Take a ride on a fire engine with the Fire & Rescue Unit
- Design print adverts at the Advertising Agency, or create your own Pokemon video at the Animation Studio
- Compete in a karaoke competition or do a dance activity at the Dance Club
- Crack mystery clues as a forensic investigator or act as a police officer at the Police Department
- Learn how to play the drums at the Music Academy
- Create your own special ingredient or recipe at the Burger Shop, the Wrap Factory, or the Smoothie Kitchen
- Learn how to change a tire at the Engineering Centre, or train to become a professional air conditioning engineer
- Work in teams and sell your dream home at the Estate Agency
- Design your own fashion show or photo shoot at the Fashion Studio
- Act as a reporter for the city newspaper
- Broadcast your own radio show from the KidZania Radio Station, or anchor your own news broadcast at the TV Studio
- Learn how to identify counterfeit notes at The Vault
There are also a variety of activities for children under the ages of four, so they can play games and musical instruments, dress-up in different outfits, and watch a puppet show. There’s also an inflatable bedroom with a water trampoline and a Shopping Alley where children can purchase jewellery, souvenirs and more.
Special Tips
Make sure you keep the receipts after you purchase anything at KidZania, as it will contain a code to download photos of your child's visit on KidZania's official website.
Try to encourage your child to stick to the shorter queues so he or she can try as many jobs as possible during their four-hour visit. Otherwise, your child may be waiting in queue for up to 40 to 45 minutes just to try one job activity.
Also, try to have something to eat beforehand so your child doesn't get hungry halfway through his or her session!
¿Cómo llegar a KidZania London?
Address: KidZania London is located on the first floor of Westfield London (between Marks & Spencers and Gap) (See map).
By Tube: If you are travelling by tube, the nearest stations to KidZania are Shepherd's Bush (a six-minute walk away), and Shepherd's Bush Market (a 15-minute walk away).
By Bus: If you are travelling by bus, you can reach KidZania London via 31, 49, 72, 94, 95, 148, 207, 220, 237, 260, 272, 283, 295, 607, C1 and N207.
By Train: If you are travelling by train, you can reach KidZania via Shepherd's Bush Overground Station, which is a five-minute walk away.
By Car: If you are travelling by car, access to the centre car park is via the A3220 West Cross Route.
Visiting KidZania London
All children will be given a bracelet with controlled access so staff know where they are at all times. Each bracelet has a radio frequency antenna and identification chip, and can only be removed by employees with parental authorization.
Each child will be given 50 kidZos to spend within the city, and can earn money by participating in various activities throughout the attraction – and even open up their own bank account!
Be aware that children will not be allowed to join an activity mid-way, and will need to wait for the next session to begin; (the duration of each activity is posted on the information card outside).
All activities are child-participation only, however parents are welcome to watch their children through a viewing window at each of the different areas, and even join in on some activities as an audience member as well.
Parents can wait in the Parents Room (which boasts lounge chairs, food and drink options as well as free wifi) while the children run around the city. If your child is eight or older and you are confident enough to leave them in KidZania on their own after they check in, you are welcome to stroll around Westfield London during your child’s two or four hour visit. If you do decide to leave, however, you must arrive at least 20 minutes before the end of your child’s four-hour session.
It is highly recommended that each child wears comfortable walking shoes (especially if they plan on climbing the wall up the Climbing Building), as flip-flops or sandals are strictly forbidden.
The entire attraction is accessible for wheelchairs, and there are many lifts, escalators and accessible toilets inside as well. There are also locker facilities inside the attraction so you can store your buggy and bags for a small fee.
Ticket prices and Opening hours
KidZania London is open from:
- Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sundays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tickets for four-hour sessions cost:
- £29.50 from Monday to Friday, or £32 on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays
- £16.50 for adults aged 15 years and up
- £10 for children between the ages of one and three
Tickets for two-hour sessions cost:
- £23 (from Monday to Friday) or £25 (on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays)
- £10 for adults aged 15 years and over
- £10 for children between the ages of one and three
Group tickets (with a minimum of ten people) cost:
- £24 from Monday to Friday, or £26 on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays
- £13.50 for adults ages 15 and over
- £10 for children between the ages of one and three
Admission is free for babies under the ages of one, and during term time there are also discounted tickets available between Monday to Friday from 2:30 p.m. which cost £18 per child and £8 per adult.
