Explore the old town of Colombia’s beating heart, the third biggest city in America, guarded by the Andes and often overlooked, which leaves no visitor indifferent: Bogotá.
Walk through La Candelaria, where in 1538 Capitan Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada arrived searching for “El Dorado“. Enjoy the colonial architecture which remains intact, and understand its unique urban development, decisive in establishing the new city as the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Granada.
Learn how Simón Bolivar imposed a regime expressed physically in the neoclassical architecture, such as the Colon Theater, former San Carlos Palace, and first residence of Bolivar president of the newly formed republic.
On our Historical Center Tour of Bogota you will discover a stoic city which has survived nine national wars throughout, two provincial wars, four great fires, and despite it all, it still managed to reinvent itself as one of the cultural capitals of America. Walk through a unique old town and find up to five different universities where students talk about poetry as they drink chicha at the Chorro de Quevedo, and where storytellers speak tales in which reality and magic are so intertwined, it’s almost impossible to tell them apart.

Valeria was my tour guide and I had her all to myself, perhaps due to the rain earlier in the day or because of the rain that arrived about two hours into our walk. She was very knowledgeable and helpful in showing me the sites of interest in La Candelaria as well as the history of Bogota, Colombia and that particular neighborhood. I highly recommend this tour and Valeria!
